New Year’s Eve is on its’ way girls, and one thing’s for sure, you want to look amazing and feel confident. How else do you plan to seal that midnight kiss? Follow these simple beauty rules for a dazzling, unique and fun look this New Year’s Eve.

Back to basics: First thing’s first, you need the perfect base. Do not smother your young skin in foundation! Foundation is for older, more worn skin. The trick for you is to enhance your skin rather than cover it up. Have you heard of BB creams? BB creams, or ’blemish balms,’ actually started in Germany in the 1960s. They recently became very popular in Asia, and they are now the latest craze to hit the western beauty market. They are perfect for boosting your natural beauty and here’s the best bit...they’re good for your skin! There are so many different brands available right now, so shop around. You don’t need to spend a fortune, you just need to experiment until you find one that suits your skin. Apply it straight to your skin like a moisturiser. You might want to use a little moisturiser beforehand if your skin is very dry, but if you have oily or combination skin then try applying it straight after cleansing. Check it out...you’re glowing! It’s so natural looking, you’d never guess it was from a bottle. Top tip! Using a foundation brush will give an even smoother finish.
You’re blushing! To add to that natural glow you’ve got going on, pop on a little bit of blusher. Smile the biggest smile you can...see those round parts of your cheeks that stick out? They’re the apples of your cheeks, and that’s where you need to put your blusher (check out our picture). Don’t go overboard, remember, less is more! If you’re pale-skinned, go for a rosy pink tone. Otherwise, try a peachy pink. Gorgeous! Top tip! Cream blush will give a more natural look than powder blush.
Eye contact: Eye eye! ’Tis the season to, in the words of Rihanna, shine bright like a diamond. New year’s eve has to be all about the glitter, but the look we’re going for here is subtle glamour. Invest in a little pot of glitter, we chose silver (Barry M have a great selection), and a tin of vaseline. Spread a very thin layer of vaseline on your eyelid. Then, using your little finger, dab some vaseline along your lower lashline. Next, wash your hands and grab a cotton bud. Dip the bud carefully into the glitter and dab it all over your eyelid. The choice is yours here - go for full on sparkle or a subtle shimmer. When you’re done, dab a small amount of glitter along your bottom lashline, you may need to use a new cotton bud for this. Top tip! Hold a piece of tissue on your cheek with your spare hand to catch any loose glitter.
All a flutter: Still working on the eyes, it’s time to prettify those lashes. Use a mascara that’s thickening, curling and lengthening for a proper party look. If you can, sit at a dressing table and look down into the mirror as you apply, the angle will really perfect your technique. Top tip! Amend any smudges with a cotton bud dipped in eye make up remover.
Kiss kiss: Right, we still need to perfect that pout so you’re ready for a midnight kiss! Grab that tin of vaseline from earlier and dab a thin layer on your lips (just enough to make them soft rather than glossy). Then, grab your favorite lippy. You choose the colour (ours is a bright fuchsia pink), you could even go for one with a little glitter pigment in if you’re feeling brave! Don’t smear the lipstick on too heavily, you don’t want to look like your auntie after a few too many gins! Pat it on lightly with your finger, gradually building up the colour. It’s up to you how strong you want the colour to be, but applying it in this way will ensure that it stays put for longer. If you like, finish the look off with a dot of clear gloss in the centre of your bottom lip, it will make your lips look fuller. Top tip! Pinky reds will make your teeth look whiter!

Well, after all that we’re ready for a good dance! Now that your make up’s taken care of, all you have to worry about is having a good time. Get ready for the countdown...happy new year!
